Newton Affordable Housing Development Approved

Newton’s Zoning Board of Appeals approved the Toll Brothers 40B project on 528 Boylston Street on the eastbound side of Route 9 between Olde Field and Dudley Roads and behind Hagen Road.  The 6-acre site is currently used by Sam White & Sons, a landscaping company for storage of mulch and other materials.

Of the 184 apartments, 25% or 46 units are affordable.  These deed restricted affordable apartments include 37 which will be affordable to households earning up to 80 % of the Area Median Income (AMI) and 9 which will be affordable to households earning up to 50% AMI.

The project still needs review by the City’s Conservation Commission; it will be subject to an Order of Conditions under the Wetland Protection Act to ensure the construction of the project does not have an adverse impact on the adjacent wetlands.  The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) also needs to approve the changes and access to Route 9.
